What is Claude Tag? An AI teammate inside Slack, explained simply
Imagine the most reliable colleague you've ever had. You tag them into a conversation, they read the whole thread so you don't have to explain anything twice, they go away and do the work — and they message you when it's done. Now imagine they never sleep and never get bored of being tagged.
That's the pitch behind Claude Tag, shown in a two-minute video on Anthropic's Claude channel. It's an AI you @-mention inside Slack, exactly like a teammate.
The three things that make it different from a chatbot
- It has the channel's context. You don't brief it from scratch. Tag it into a thread and it picks up what the conversation already covered — the client's name, the deadline that moved, the decision from yesterday.
- It can use your organisation's tools. It isn't limited to writing text; it connects to the systems your team already works with.
- It persists. This is the quiet headline: it can see work through over days, and comes back to you when it's finished or needs your input. It behaves like a colleague with a to-do list, not a vending machine.
Why this matters even if you don't use Slack
Most small businesses I work with don't run on Slack — they run on WhatsApp, email and shouting across the kitchen. But the pattern matters more than the product: AI is moving into the places where work already happens, instead of asking you to come to it.
We've been building on this exact principle for a while. Our speed-to-lead systems put the AI inside WhatsApp — a new enquiry arrives, the AI drafts a reply, and the owner gets a WhatsApp message with an approve button. Same idea, different room: the AI comes to you, holds the context, and a human makes the final call.
What to take from it
If you run a team, ask one question: "Which conversations in my business repeat the same work every week?" Enquiry triage, meeting prep, chasing missing information, drafting the same three documents. Those threads are where an AI teammate — whichever tool it lives in — earns its keep first.
And if the repeating conversation in your business is "did anyone reply to that lead?", that's the one we fix. Book a free Lead Leak Audit — 15 minutes, no obligation.
