Delegating work to AI: scheduled tasks explained simply

There's a moment every business owner knows: Sunday evening, laptop open, doing the same weekly job you did last Sunday and the fifty Sundays before it. Preparing the week's schedule. Pulling the numbers. Checking what competitors posted. It's not hard work — it's just yours, forever, apparently.

A short video from Anthropic's Claude channel shows the alternative taking shape: in Claude Cowork you can delegate a task once and schedule it to repeat — from meeting prep to hourly content scans. Set it up on Monday; it happens every Monday after that without you.

The shift: from chatting with AI to delegating to it

Most people still use AI like a search box: ask, get answer, leave. Delegation is a different verb entirely. You describe the job the way you'd brief a new assistant — what to do, where to look, what "done" looks like — and then you stop doing the job. The AI runs it on schedule and brings you the result.

The examples in the video are deliberately ordinary, which is the point:

Translate those into a service business and you get: a Monday-morning summary of last week's enquiries and which ones went quiet. A daily check that your ads are actually delivering. A brief before every sales call with everything the customer already told you.

The one rule of delegating to AI

Same rule as delegating to people: delegate the doing, keep the deciding. A scheduled AI task that gathers, drafts and summarises is nearly risk-free — worst case, you get a mediocre report. A scheduled task that sends things to customers without review is a different animal. Keep an approval step on anything outward-facing. We're strict about this in our own builds: the automation does the legwork, and a human taps ✓ before anything reaches a customer.

Where to start

Write down the three tasks you've done every single week for the past year. If any of them is "collect information and put it in front of me", it's delegable today. If one of them is "chase the leads nobody replied to" — that's the one we build for a living, and we'll show you how in a free 15-minute audit.
